My name is Peter Bradbury. I am a Gouldian breeder from Shellharbour, NSW, Australia. You might know me from my previous website, www.gouldians.bigpondhosting.com.
I breed only aviary bred, parent reared Gouldians. At present, I keep and breed black headed, purple and white breasted Normals.
I have an exhibition Budgerigar background. So my interest in Gouldians is primarily to improve them. Apart from the obvious 3 qualities of size, colour and fertility, I have mainly concentrated on improving the head of my Gouldians. So working to increase the width between the eyes, lengthening the feathering above the eyes, and increasing the size of the backskull.
I am not trying to create a Gouldian that does not look like a Gouldian anymore, I am just trying to create a bird that best displays the natural beauty of the species.
Breeding Gouldians for quality rather than colour has become very popular in recent years. These days, I sell the majority of my surplus birds to breeders who are aiming to do the same thing as me.
Keeping and breeding Gouldians is pretty easy. The 3 most important things are buying healthy birds, good housing and a quality diet. Everything that I give my birds, and where I get it from is on this website.
My new website is a work in progress. I will be updating it regularly with new articles and photos.
Please keep in mind that this website is about my personal journey and experiences with Gouldians.
This website is dedicated to Ron Tristram (1945-2006). Ron also had an exhibition Budgerigar background. I got all my original breeding stock from Ron, and being able to buy such quality birds to begin with has saved me many years of hard work.
I do sell my surplus Gouldians in December every year. However, they are usually all spoken for many months before that. I freight anywhere in Australia.
